About LUMI
Rooted in rural heritage, we began weaving mats and rugs in San Francisco back in 1998. Nestled in the quiet corner of home decor, we aspire to craft a unique fusion of nature and grace, elevating every living space into a warm, peaceful haven.
In 1980s, the founder’s mother was a tailor with a creative spark grew up in Perris. She had a profound love for crafting handmade rugs for their home, meticulously drawing unique patterns that transformed the space with each season.
The founder, deeply captivated by both his mother’s creative spirit and the region’s sun-drenched valleys and windswept deserts, resolved to weave nature’s energy into the warmth of cozy home interiors. The name LUMI comes from the Latin word 'Lumen' which means bright light - implying the beautiful expectation of "bringing light to life".
In 2013, LUMI launched the first store, pouring all its brand philosophy and unwavering dedication to mats & rugs into this landmark space. This huge milestone also served as a catalyst for the founder to connect with a lot of international vendors. Together, they embarked on a collaborative journey of technological iteration, relentlessly refining and innovating manufacturing techniques to push the boundaries of craftsmanship in the industry.
LUMI made its elegant foray into online sales in 2023 and embarked on global sourcing initiatives. Today, the company boasts a workforce of over a hundred, complemented by its own dedicated material laboratory. By harmoniously blending vintage aesthetics, modern science, and state-of-the-art global technologies, it aspires to establish a global rug brand, and to more exquisitely spread the philosophy of integrating nature with home.
